Coco Chanel by Marie Laurencin (1923
For his latest haute couture collection, Lagerfeld told the press that he was inspired by the work of Marie Laurencin and this painting of Coco Chanel in particular. While Laurencin was designing a ballet commissioned by Diaghilev, called Les Biches, for which Cocteau wrote the scenario, Chanel was designing Le Train Blue for the ballet impresario. She asked Laurencin, to paint her, but the languor and sweetness of the portrait weren't pleasing to Chanel, so she turned it down. Today the painting hangs in Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris... So, I know what I'll be doing this weekend... TATAFORNOW♥
